When the browser Windows is closed, the background Edge process will continue to run while waiting for a request to launch the browser again. When Edge is launched, this background process will quickly launch a new visible browser window to interact with. The Startup Boost feature works by automatically launching a background Microsoft Edge process when a user logs into Windows. The second new feature is 'Startup boost', which will automatically maximize your device performance by reducing the time it takes to open the browser after a device reboot or reopening the browser. Unfortunately, users still cannot access both the standard layout and vertical layout at the same time. Later this month, vertical tabs is also getting support for drag and drop, which will allow you to drag links from the open tab and drop it in the vertical tab sidebar. Vertical tabs feature was first introduced last year and this feature has been designed to move the tabs bar from the top to the left side in a vertical layout and you can switch between old and new layout with one click. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it's enabling support for sleeping tabs and now Microsoft is rolling out two new features - vertical tabs and startup boost. Microsoft Edge was redesigned with Chromium in January 2020 and it's getting better every month with new updates.
